Greg Dulcich
Greg Dulcich Making impression on Sean Payton
Mon, Jun 12, 2023, 2:13 PM
Dulcich is healthy for offseason practices and has been making a good impression on new coach Sean Payton, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports. "[Dulcich]'s got traits that are exciting," Payton said earlier this month, "and today was one of those days where you begin to have a vision."
Analysis: Hamstring injuries cost Dulcich the first five games of his rookie season as well as the final two. In between, the 2022 third-round pick emerged as Denver's top pass catcher at tight end, averaging 4.9 targets in QB Russell Wilson's nine starts. Dulcich caught only 60 percent of his targets -- a rather low rate for a TE -- but his 33 receptions included six gains of 20-plus yards and three of 30-plus. While a favorite to lead the team's tight ends in targets again, Dulcich isn't known for blocking and may thus cede a lot of the early down snaps to Adam Trautman, Albert Okwuegbunam and/or Chris Manhertz.
Jerry Jeudy
Jerry Jeudy Hearing scheduled for Friday
Thu, May 12, 2022, 6:47 PM
Jeudy is scheduled for a hearing at 8:30 a.m. MT on Friday following his arrest Thursday in Arapahoe County (Colorado) on suspicion of criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer, George Stoia III of The Denver Gazette reports.
Analysis: According to Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown, "there was no physical contact" between Jeudy and the woman in question, and he has yet to be formally charged in the ongoing investigation, per Kieran Nicholson and Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post. Prior to Brown's statement, the Broncos posted one of their own, stating the team is "aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information," according to Mike Klis of 9News Denver. Friday's appearance before a judge could shed more light on Jeudy's current legal situation.

Jerry Jeudy Arrested Thursday afternoon
Thu, May 12, 2022, 4:15 PM
Following his arrest Thursday afternoon, Jeudy is being held at the Arapahoe County (Colorado) jail on charges of second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer, a misdemeanor, ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports.
Analysis: Per Mike Klis of 9News Denver, the Broncos noted in a statement that they "are aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information." The 23-year-old wideout had been a regular attendee in the team's offseason program prior to Thursday.
Jerry Jeudy
Jerry Jeudy High hopes for rebound in 2022
Fri, May 6, 2022, 9:51 AM
Jeudy admits Russell Wilson will help him to improve in 2022, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: After a largely disappointing 2021 season, Jeudy has an opportunity to rebound in a big way next season with the addition of Wilson at quarterback. The deal sending the veteran signal-caller from Seattle to Denver is already paying dividends, as Jeudy has noticed Wilson's impact as a leader. "[He's] getting me better as well. He's going to help me a lot this year," the wideout said of Wilson. Additionally, head coach Nathaniel Hackett wants to use the vertical passing game more next season, which should open things up in the passing attack. With Wilson throwing the ball, Jeudy and the rest of the Broncos pass catchers have a chance to flourish in 2022.
Albert Okwuegbunam
Albert Okwuegbunam Faces competition in 2022
Fri, May 6, 2022, 8:24 AM
With the addition of rookie tight end Greg Dulcich in the third round of the draft, Okwuegbunam may find himself sharing duties at the position in 2022, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Though Okwuegbunam's starting tight end position is likely secure at this point, the addition of Dulcich through the draft could certainly cut into the veteran's playing time next season. Okwuegbunam became poised to be the Broncos' starting tight end with the departure of Noah Fant to Seattle as part of the deal to acquire Russell Wilson. Dulcich, however, caught the eye of head coach Nathaniel Hackett as an impact player. "When you have a guy that can stretch the field like he can, it's really exciting," Hackett said of the UCLA product. Regardless of how the tight end pecking order plays out in 2022, the arrival of Wilson at quarterback will likely help to elevate the fantasy production of the entire Denver pass-catching group.
Eric Saubert
Eric Saubert Earns deal with Denver
Wed, May 4, 2022, 4:12 PM
Saubert re-signed with the Broncos on a one-year deal Wednesday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Saubert appeared in all 17 games with Denver last season, earning eight catches on 12 targets for 47 yards and a touchdown. He's also been a solid and consistent contributor on special teams for the Broncos. With the departure of Noah Fant to Seattle, but the acquisition of Eric Tomlinson in free agency, and the selection of Greg Dulcich in the third round of the 2022 Draft, Saubert could be fighting for a roster spot in training camp.
Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon Officially signs with Denver
Thu, Apr 28, 2022, 7:36 AM
Gordon signed a one-year, $2.5 million base deal with the Broncos on Wednesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: The veteran running back has a chance to make up to $4 million with incentives, though it was previously reported that the contract could be worth up to $5 million. As the figures were clarified Thursday, it appears that the duo of Gordon and Javonte Williams are likely headed toward some sort of split in workload out of the backfield once again in 2022. Both backs found success in what was an inconsistent offense last season. The addition of Russell Wilson at quarterback could be the spark that both Gordon and Williams need to take their fantasy potential to the next level, even if they continue to share duties at a near-even split again.
Javonte Williams
Javonte Williams Set to share work with Gordon again
Wed, Apr 27, 2022, 10:21 AM
Williams will be paired with Melvin Gordon in the backfield once again 2022 after the Broncos re-signed Gordon to a one-year deal Tuesday, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Prior to Denver bringing back Gordon, Williams seemed positioned to see a big boost in his workload this coming season, but a timeshare arrangement could now be back in play. Both players logged 203 carries in 2021, and while there should be enough touches for the two to remain fantasy relevant, Williams' ceiling is nonetheless hampered by the continued presence of the capable Gordon. Of the two, Williams profiles as the upside play, but as long as his veteran counterpart is available, the 2021 second-round pick's volume figures to be capped.
Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon Rejoins Denver on one-year deal
Tue, Apr 26, 2022, 9:52 PM
Gordon agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $5 million with the Broncos on Tuesday, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports.
Analysis: The 29-year-old will return to Denver another year after rushing for 918 yards and eight touchdowns in 16 games last season. He also caught 28 passes for 213 yards and two more scores. Gordon should still be fairly involved in 2022 but figures to have a reduced role after splitting work with Javonte Williams last year, who also received 203 carries during his rookie campaign. However, it remains to be seen exactly how their workloads shake out in 2022 with Russell Wilson now helming the offense.
KJ Hamler
KJ Hamler Ahead of schedule
Mon, Apr 25, 2022, 10:51 AM
GM George Paton relayed Friday that Hamler is "well ahead of schedule" in his recovery from a torn left ACL, The Athletic's Nick Kosmider reports.
Analysis: The report adds that Hamler, who sustained his injury back on Sept. 26, has progressed to the point that he was able to run routes and catch passes from Denver's new QB Russell Wilson last month. While it remains to be seen when Hamler will be able to practice without restriction, the 2020 second-rounder noted, "I expect myself to be ready before the season." Given that the Broncos also roster Courtland Sutton, Jerry Jeudy and Tim Patrick, there's not a clear path for a high volume of targets for Hamler as the 2022 campaign approaches, but considering the team's major upgrade at quarterback, the 22-year-old speedster could carve out fantasy utility down the road if presented with added opportunities if/when injuries hit Denver's wideout corps.
Brett Rypien
Brett Rypien Signs tender
Mon, Apr 11, 2022, 3:57 PM
Rypien signed his one-year exclusive rights tender Monday, Aric DiLalla of the Broncos' official site reports.
Analysis: Rypien spent the majority of the 2021 season as the Broncos' No. 3 signal-caller behind Teddy Bridgewater and Drew Lock, appearing in just one game and logging three snaps in total. Even with Bridgewater (Miami) and Lock (Seattle) in new locations, Rypien's outlook won't change much in 2022. The Broncos acquired Russell Wilson from the Seahawks earlier in the offseason, while Josh Johnson looks like the favorite for the backup role after he was brought aboard in March on a one-year, $1.3 million deal.
Tim Patrick
Tim Patrick Restructures contract with Denver
Mon, Mar 21, 2022, 9:08 AM
The Broncos converted $6.9 million of Patrick's roster bonus to a signing bonus Friday to create roughly $4.6 million in salary cap space, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports.
Analysis: Patrick's restructured deal comes just four months after he signed a three-year, $29.25 million contract with the Broncos in November. The additional salary cap room will allow Denver to remain active as the team looks to improve the roster heading into next season. The veteran wideout caught 53 of 85 targets for 734 yards and five touchdowns in 16 games last season. The acquisition of Russell Wilson at quarterback marks a significant upgrade at the position and should provide Patrick the opportunity to take a step forward in the offense in 2022.
Courtland Sutton
Courtland Sutton Restructures deal with Denver
Sun, Mar 20, 2022, 11:53 AM
The Broncos converted $10.5 million of Sutton's contract into a signing bonus Sunday to create $7.875 million in salary cap room, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Sutton inked a four-year, $60.8 million extension with the Broncos in November, and it didn't take long for the team to rework the deal in order to create some cap space. The 26-year-old caught 58 of 98 targets for 776 yards and two touchdowns in 17 games last season, and his outlook for 2022 is on the rise since Denver will have a major upgrade at quarterback following the acquisition of Russell Wilson.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Trade to Denver official
Wed, Mar 16, 2022, 3:15 PM
The Broncos' trade for Russell Wilson from the Seahawks became official Wednesday.
Analysis: In one of the landmark transactions of the offseason, Denver finally landed its first big-name quarterback since Peyton Manning retired after winning Super Bowl 50. Wilson will have a bevy of pass catchers at his disposal, moat notably wide receivers Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton and Tim Patrick, tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and running back Javonte Williams. Wilson is coming off a subpar season by his standards, as he missed the first games (three) of his career due to injury and the playoffs for just the second time in 10 pro campaigns. Still, he completed 65 percent of his passes, averaged 7.8 yards per attempt and had 25 touchdowns versus six interceptions in 14 appearances.
Brett Rypien
Brett Rypien Tendered by Broncos
Sun, Mar 13, 2022, 8:35 PM
The Broncos extended a contract tender to Rypien on Sunday.
Analysis: Rypien played just three offensive snaps during the 2021 campaign and failed to complete either of his two pass attempts. As an exclusive rights free agent, he'll return to Denver in 2022 to serve as a reserve to Russell Wilson.
Andrew Beck
Andrew Beck Signs one-year extension
Sun, Mar 13, 2022, 2:23 PM
The Broncos signed Beck to a one-year deal Sunday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Beck appeared in 12 contests during the 2021 campaign before suffering an elbow injury in Week 15 that resulted in his placement on injured reserve for the remainder of the season. He totaled 55 offensive snaps and 189 special teams snaps but didn't record any counting stats.
Albert Okwuegbunam
Albert Okwuegbunam Poised for larger role
Thu, Mar 10, 2022, 12:15 PM
With Noah Fant slated to head to the Seahawks in the looming Russell Wilson trade, Okwuegbunam currently profiles as the Broncos' top option at tight end, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: The 2020 fourth-rounder is coming off a 2021 season in which he hauled in 33 of his 40 targets for 330 yards and two TDs in 14 games. With Fant, who saw 90 targets in 16 contests last year, out of the equation, Okwuegbunam seems poised for an uptick in work this coming season, but Kosmider suggests that the Broncos could bring in some tight end competition via free agency and/or the draft. In any case, the anticipated addition of Wilson does boost the fantasy prospects of the team's skill players, a context that gives Okwuegbunam some sleeper appeal, though to what degree depends on how the team's TE depth chart ultimately shakes out in the coming months.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Trade moves toward completion
Wed, Mar 9, 2022, 12:04 PM
In the wake of the agreed upon deal that is slated to send Wilson from Seattle to Denver, the quarterback waived his no-trade clause and passed his physical with the Broncos on Tuesday night, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: As a result, Tuesday's blockbuster trade in which the Broncos are in line to send QB Drew Lock, TE Noah Fant, DL Shelby Harris, two first-round draft picks, two second-round picks and a 2022 fifth-round selection to the Seahawks in exchange for Wilson and a 2022 fourth-rounder, continues to move toward becoming official once the league's new league year begins March 16. The looming arrival of Wilson, who turns 34 in November, provides his new franchise with the signal-caller stability it has been seeking and in the process figures to boost the fantasy prospects of the team's core skill players, a unit that includes WRs Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler, TE Albert Okwuegbunam and RB Javonte Williams.
Russell Wilson
Russell Wilson Trade to Denver in place
Tue, Mar 8, 2022, 1:36 PM
A deal is in place to send Wilson and a fourth-round draft pick from the Seahawks to the Broncos in exchange for quarterback Drew Lock, tight end Noah Fant, defensive lineman Shelby Harris, two first-round picks, two second-round picks and a fifth-round pick, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: Per Schefter, the blockbuster hinges on Wilson waiving his no-trade clause, an expected outcome. Additionally, the looming transaction can't be finalized until the new league year begins March 16. Adding Wilson to the mix will provide the Broncos offense with a huge lift and significantly bolsters the nucleus of an attack that also includes running back Javonte Williams as well as wideouts Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, Tim Patrick and KJ Hamler.
Melvin Gordon
Melvin Gordon Could be re-signed
Tue, Mar 1, 2022, 2:38 PM
GM George Paton is open to re-signing Gordon, who is poised to become an unrestricted free agent, Field Yates of ESPN reports. "I've had really good discussions with Melvin," Paton noted. "I'd like to have him back."
Analysis: Gordon, who signed a two-year deal with Denver back in March of 2020, worked in a time-share this past season with 2021 second-rounder Javonte Williams, an arrangement that resulted in both backs logging 203 carries. It remains to be seen if Gordon is amenable to splitting work again in 2022, but if the 2015 first-rounder ends up departing for a chance at a more clear-cut starting assignment, Williams' fantasy stock would get a boost in the process.
